Exhaust hose supplier

Another supplier is Halyard Marine. Maybe cheaper than Vetus. Advantage of both Vetus and Halyard is that they are very much more flexible than older type hoses, easier to cut and fit to spigots. Anyone who has installed hose will appreciate these properties. Don't know how they compare with Portmere.

I did a job on a friends boat where I needed to replace a 6" Rubber Exhaust Pipe as it had delaminated where it pushed over the SS Sleeve outlet pipe. and when the engine was running it was leaking into the bilges. I realised that, as where it was leaking was a bit of a distance from the engine by the time the exhaust water/gasses had got that far they would have cooled considerably.
The problem was made more difficult not by a £40 a meter cost but it was difficult to get to.
What I did was go to a Tractor Dealer and buy a length of reinforced 6" Plastic Pipe and a 6" sleeve, shorten the end of the existing pipe where it had started leaking, push the 6" sleeve into the existing pipe and Jubilee clip it up. Then pushing a 1ft length of the new pipe onto the skin fitting and onto the other end of the sleeve I then put another 2 Jubilee Clips on. Job Done. Cost around £15. (In actual fact I used 2 clips per joint)
OK the Reinforced Plastic Pipe I put on would not be as good as Original Rubber Exhaust Hose but with this repair only using 1 ft of pipe and a 6 " sleeve the job could be done every couple of years for peanuts.
May I just also mention that the large Jubilee (Type) clips which I bought from the Tractor Dealer were far superior to what the Chandlers had in stock and its worth checking at a Tractor Dealer if you ever want any. (Ps Fuel Filters are cheaper as well)
