Exhaust hose connection

There is an extended part of s/s hose connected (weld) to the engine's original short exhaust hose, and then connected to the waterlog unit via Hi-temp rubber hose before pumping outboard.

The welding point of the additional s/s hose eaily got rust & leakage of gas & water to the engine sole.

Is it possible to replace the additional S/S portion (i.e. cut it away) by directly connect the engine's original exhaust hose to the waterlog unit via a longer hi-temp rubber hose ? Would it be too hot for such direct connection ?

Appreciate your kind advise.

One must assume that it was there for a purpose. Is it a swan neck intended to raise the exhaust height above the waterline to prevent syphoning back through the exhaust? I would ask an engineer who knows the boat type/engine type before just doing away with it.

PCUK / Moodysabre,

Thanks for your advise. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Water is inserted before the intended rubber hose connecting point which is 6 inches away. Just worrying whether this 6 inches can be accepted. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The swan neck position is right before the outlet at the stern, 10 ft atfer the waterlog unit, seems OK for the modification ?

Sounds as if you could manage without the SS bit. The fact that it is welded on and the weld has gone makes it sound like a modification anyway. The exhaust hose on the VP2003 on my boat is connected direct to the water injection point close to the engine.

It sounds as if somebody has done a DIY mod. It is quite normal to have hose straight onto the manifold outlet and 6 inches between the injection point and end of manifold is quite normal too. The hose itself will not get hotter than it is designed for if the water supply is OK. Incidentally it's a waterlock not a waterlog.
