Exhaust gas temp (EGT). Advice needed

Just to round off this particular thread. I have come up with a solution to get a clear EGT reading onto my Axiom 12. It’s not cheap, but it will do the job really well.

3x NMEA 2000 compatible probes
1x Raymarine MCU-1000 control unit (empirbus node)
And Raymarine will programme a page for my Axiom 12 to show the readings for Port, Centre and Starboard engines.
Plus a load of engineers time and some Raymarine network cabling !

Net result, I will be able to call up EGT readings on my Axiom, and to set a max temp above which an alarm will sound. The only disappointment isn’t that I won’t be able to have the readings constantly on display if I want to use the plotter - it will be an either or situation.

Thanks again for all the input.

Sounds good (if perhaps not cheap...!). If the data is thus available on the network, could you just add an i70s, so that when you want to use the big screen for other things, you still get some data display?

I have an i70s for exactly that reason but because the screen is bespoke it will only be on the Axiom.....

As many of you know I am in the process of rebuilding a 2002 sunseeker Superhawk 50. On the mechanical side I have removed all 3 engines and had them fully overhauled. They are now back in and purring perfectly (47 knots on sea trial ! ). However I have read a lot about EGT recently and especially on here, and can see the wisdom in being able to monitor this simple yet highly informative datapoint.

There is a an opportunity to mount the sensor after the turbo but before the water injection point which I think is perfect, however I am looking for advice on how to display the data. In theory it should be relatively simple to “send” the data to my new raymarine kit (axiom 12, and i70s) and then set it up to be easily read from the helm....... but I am struggling to get advice on how to do this, what sender to use etc etc.

All that I have read on here historically implies an independent gauge or read out for the data, and I wondered if anyone knew of a way or perhaps a particular sender that would relay the data to my Raymarine displays ?

All comments and advice welcome
Someone here (apologies, I can’t recall who) had the brilliant idea that rather than send the data to the helm, the gauges remained in the engine room but placed in front of the engine room camera. And it was the camera image that was relayed to the helm. I thought it was genius

hm, I cannot really find a better excuse for another plotter then :D

I think it was Bart, but not too sure of this analogue approach, further, no alarms of course and you'll still need a plotter (or other screen) dedicated to that else you're going to end up with more problems that the one you're trying to solve.
I'm on a similar boat in that I can easily do the h/w and NMEA2000 message for the EGTs BUT Garmin kit I've got WONT use EGTs, so I have to either buy an expensive Maretron screen or built a custom screen, graphics, et al and it aint easy :(

I have limited real estate on the dashboard but could have squeezed in an axiom 7 above the 12...... with hindsight, I probably should have but it was a lot more expensive than the i70s and I couldn’t not think of a reason for having another plotter........ and hadn’t really thought about the EGT issue at all. At least this way, I have the data, I have the alarms, and I have a format that is easy to use.........

Re your Garmin. Perhaps it’s possible to programme a bespoke screen as with the Raymarine ? Otherwise, I’m afraid I can’t think of a better reason for a new plotter !!!!
