Just re-installing my exhaust, as you do, and I've decided to alter the run of it slightly for more convenient stowage. I'm looking for two 90 deg. elbows to fit an exhaust pipe ID, 40mm. Vetus and other manufacturers don't seem to have them. Are these bespoke items made in grp by marine engineers, or can I put brass plumbing in? These bends would be very near the counter outlet and well away from the engine and waterlock. Total exhaust run is about 3 metres.

Failing this, can anyone recommend a very flexible hose that would take sharp bends of about 6 inch radius? This may be cheaper than pipework and the extra SS jubilee clips needed.

Thanks, as ever.

Vetus have 60 degree bends (as well as straight connectors)and they claim their exhaust hose will bend to a radius 1.5 times diameter, so no need for solid bend. See pages 89 and 91 of catalogue. You are right it is better to avoid the connections. If you intend forming a swan (or goose!) neck then they have a ready made one that gives you the 180 degrees (page 148).

Try a motor factor.
My local mannie let me rake through a box full of flexible rubber cooling hoses, the concertina variety, until I came up with a suitable one.
I though it might not last because of the heat of the exhaust bend, but its fine after a year or so. I did try a Vetus pre-bent pipe in a garish blue silicon material but I couldn't get a decent fit.
