Can someone explain the function of the reset button on these instruments?

Thanks in advance Dave

Dave,
I recently reconnected my exhaust overheat alarms and was testing as I went.

Mine has a switch on the panel that turns off/mutes the alarm which if you ever heard one you would thankful for the mute facility.

On mine, this does not 'reset' the alarm, it just shuts it up for a while and the red indicator continues to glow.

Not sure if this is what you are referring to.
