Exhaust alarm

You can use one of these £2.39 temperature switches http://cpc.farnell.com/microtherm/0...l-switch-n-o-30c/dp/SN35838?in_merch=Products mounted on the exhaust elbow with a blob of CPU heat sink conductive paste, just wire it up to a low voltage buzzer and when it reaches temperature the contacts close and it will sound the buzzer. They are available with different temperature ranges.
I use one as a sensor on my battery charger which is in a locker, when the charger heat sink gets warm it closes the contacts on the switch to turn on a computer cooling fan to vent the locker.

Whole job could be done for less than a tenner.

Now that's starting to look like a project! The other day I was punching a tide, so working the engine a bit harder than normal, and I got a bit concerned about the amound of steam, from the exhaust, so the timing is perfect!

The one you linked to goes off at 30 deg, but I've found one that claims to go off between 55 & 70. Does that sound about right for attaching to the elbow on a raw water cooled VP2003?

The monitor / alarm that I fitted to my raw water cooled VP2002 shows around 35°C at normal cruising revs and around 45°C at WOT.
