Have a pair of old ford 2700 series with minimec injection pumps. The excess fuel buttons are sticking. manual says replace the rod but gives no guidance as to how. Anybody got any experience nd can offer any guidance.

I have only got knowledge of the Minimec on my boat which has an electrical solenoid for the cold start. The 2700 engines came in lots of different disguises (2715 2723 ect) and you may need more information as to what you actually have. Some of these engines have Simms fuel pumps on them which have a manual cold start button.

I agree with the previous poster that Seahorsepower are good for information and parts.

Thank you both for the referral to seahorse. Useful to have a further source and I will ring them today. The actual model is 2715 120hp 6 cylinder. The manual is so vague its rediculous re this problem. The pump has minimec on one side but my understanding is that others have found both minimec and simms stamped on their pumps so not sure if some link there. the engines are 1980.

We have one that sticks as well, but are fortunate enough to be able to get to it easy, when the engine is running all we have to do is flick the stop lever and the button comes out.As a matter of interest do you change the cam box oil on a regular basis??

yes same thing, mine will release fully only when stop lever pulled. new boat so will check the oil level thankyou.

No good checking it, change it, filler plug on top at front, drain plug right underneath the pump same plane, and level plug halfway up between the two. Open filler, remove drain, and level, do not be surprised to see diesel run out. replace drain and refill with engine oil till it runs out of level plug. replace both plugs and note how smooth she ticks over.

2715 normally has the Simms pump fitted which has the drain and fill level plug and as such had a manual cold start.

Later versions had the Minimec pump which had an oil feed from the engine and a electrical solenoid fitted for the cold start.

It is possible that you have a 2715 fitted with a Minimec a quick photo will show which it is.

Do you have a workshop manual for this engine, if not PM me and I will send you one on a PDF file.

will get a picture to confirm tomorrow but it`s definately got minimec printed on the side. Have spoken to Lancing and a specialist injection co today and they have suggested that the pump needs to be removed and the cold start button shaft replacement be done from the inside but niether had any concrete information on method of change which seems odd. Tom pm sent thank you.
