V. small relative to most, M5 might find them useful, though.

The interesting thing that came from this, for me anyway, was that depression tracks are determined by the interaction of the jet stream and any blocking highs. If I understood correctly, we in the UK are typically on the left end of a jetstream terminus which gives us all of our Atlantic depressions.

well ...... i always look at the 500mb prognosis before setting out. i mean you never know, do you, what might be stirring away up there? humph ... i do so regret using tea bags as i got such a kick from examining the tea leaves for such occasions ....

I haven't seen the program so I might repeat something the has been said there, anyway: I heard jet stream are responsible for the only deaths in American soil during ww2; jet streams were discovered by a japanese scientist, and the jap army thought of using them to send large sonde balloons loaded with weapons across the pacific, to the US.
One or maybe more balloons arrived to the US, one exploded somewhere and killed a group of people which were picknicking
