Hello.. .my first boat ! I am trying to find out the history of this old wooden boat. All I have are the length-16ft, and a number- 5383. It has a half cabin aft for the officer and it is steered from the front by a rating. Clinker to the chine and diagonal below. . very shallow draught-I'd say 18inches. it was white with varnished top wood. There are lifting eyes fore and aft. The engine has gone. Where do I find more details as I want to restore it to original . I don't know how to put a photo on this , so I can email if you want

Welcome to the forum. I know of the type of boat you are talking about, but nothing really, but I'm sure somebody will be along to help shortly.

Thanks Burgundy Ben. . I'm having a glass of it right now ! I'm sorry but I do not know how to put pics on screen yet- abject beginner . What is the bmpt site please?

I don't know your location, but the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth Dockyard may be able to help.
I think quite often these kind of boats were built in the dockyards. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Erik.

Several different timbers no doubt.

The bottom double diag planks could be teak, the clinker planks mahogany, maybe some CRE for the centre line, best to get a good shipwright to have a look.

Ben
