Desperately seeking some support in how to maintain and spruce up me old boat moored on the River Lea (navigation stretch) in time for the Olympics. Not sure if the Olympics is relevant really but seems topical and it would be fun to cruise her up and down the river when all the excitement is taking place. I have a mooring at Springfield Marina along the river wall. I may have been a hardy pirate in another life but I am a clueless landlubber in this life BUT I LOVE MY BOAT AND POTTERING ABOUT NEXT TO NATURE. Maybe I am more of a 'Wind in the willows' than 'Pirates of the Caribbean'... do you detect a waffle here? I am shy to ask for the help I need and I am stalling but there goes: I need to tighten and/or grease my stern gland. I need to refurbish inside, clean and paint the outside. Replace the canopy (hopefully without costing an arm and a leg!). I know some will just say 'Sell it!' But, please, humour me... I don't want to consider that option until I have exhausted all others. Any ideas? Ooh Argggh Me Hearties, giz us some help you liver bellied boomers or ElSE (oops, where did that come from?) Happy boating I mean!

I think -

you may be on the wrong forum here.

Yes, this forum welcomes input from anywhere, but from the point of boaters well to the East of the non tidal Thames, there aren't many contributors here.

From my last visit to the Lee (a while ago now), I remember that Springfield had a number of umm- project boats - around, so surely your own doorstep might be a more profitable place to look?

I guess there must be some local boat clubs where you could find willing help.
