Hi all, Wondering if anyone can give me an idea. I have an evinrude 25 outboard pull start.

Now there are 3 yellow wires each with a different coloured stripe coming from the outboard not connected to anything.

Could anyone tell me what these are for?

Thanks in advance

They are the AC electrical output from the stator coil

If its an electric start model they should connect to a 4 wire ( 3 phase) rectifier via a nearby terminal block to provide DC for battery charging.

you dont say what model you have but select it from THIS LIST
and look at the "ignition" parts diagrams. The rectifier is the round thing near the centre of the diagrams applicable to electric start models.

( colour stripes not important when connecting to a rectifier.. in fact non OEM rectifiers don't necessarily have the blue and grey stripes )

Just re-read the original post and see that it is one of the rope start versions.

I suspect therefore that the stator coil has been added although if its a Belgium made one it might be original and fitted to provide AC for lighting. Normally a three pin socket would be fitted to allow the lighting to plug in.

If the wires do not go to a three pin socket then a DIY addition is the likely explanation

A battery charging kit , comprising of a rectifier and a short wiring harness with the 3 pin plug may have been/still be available

Alternatively the terminal block could be fitted and a rectifier fitted directly to the engine if it is wanted to fit it up for battery charging.

For use for lighting the diagram already posted must be followed, observing the colour coding.
