"Tony Riley has been appointed as the ATYC Deputy Chairman. Tony is a member of the Windsor Yacht Club and the founder member of the Thames Motor Boaters Association (TMBA) "

From the ATYC Newsletter received today.

I knew of this a little while ago, following a recent conversation with Tony and have got to admit I'm very surprised by it, given the somewhat less than friendly reception Tony received from the ATYC when he started up TMBA.

I guess that just goes to show that they (ATYC) have come to recognise the hard work Tony has been putting in on behalf of Thames motor-boaters.

Does this mean he'll be off to G&H Military for a new coat with braid AND we'll have to dip ensigns when we see him?

So its true ...
Buy Broom and automatically gain the right to join the ranks of the Thames Aristocracy............?.
Believe this also involves Droit du seigneur and the right to create excessive wash on the Thames without consequence. :)

What a load of unmitigated drivel you utter at times, Fred. Thanks for the good wishes and delighted to learn that RCC enjoyed the WID Rally and are now a member club of ATYC.

I believe D de S involves subordinate women and I've never met any on the Thames ;)

Just for the record, I regard this as more of a challenge than an accolade. The dep. chair position had been vacant for over two years and nobody apparently queuing up to fill it.
Others, in the past, have suggested that the TMBA and ATYC could act more co-operatively in representing boaters and I see this as being an opportunity to do just that. The TMBA was always intended to provide representation for boaters who choose not to belong to a club, whilst the ATYC provides an umbrella for clubs themselves, both for providing representation and also promoting social interaction and events for their members. I hope a little cross fertilisation might benefit both - time will tell.
