Hi all,

Last week in Poole quay boat haven we saw several boats with the soft foam matting applied. SWMBO really liked it and I've been tasked with finding somebody to quote for our 28' motorboat. Having done a bit of research I have found a fairly local company - Wasserdek, but it appears that I have to measure then fit it myself. Has anyone had this fitted and used a company that do a full measuring/manufacturing/fitting service? Cheers.

I know this is not what you are asking but this is a company (and its supplier) to AVOID.

I placed a 50% deposit with Marine Dek Ltd of Southampton for measurement, templating, supply and fitting of SeaDek EVA decking for my Motor Boat in November 2021. They visited and templated within 2 days of order and all was progressing well for fitting late Jan / early Feb 2022 with material stock held in the UK reserved.

BUT - I'm still waiting (July 2022) and have had to go to Small Claims Court for refund of deposit, even though Marine Dek Ltd promised and admit a refund is due. It is very disappointing as Marine Dek were recommended by another (trusted) tradesman. Marine Dek Ltd use SeaDek (a US company with CNC machining facitility in the UK near Bristol) and it was the latter's unilateral decision to reallocate stock material to another (smaller) job which caused the biggest issue. However, this was just the final straw after continual delays by Marine Dek Ltd and lack of communication from just before Christmas 2021.

Thank you.

Hope you find someone soon. There must be plenty of other (good) installers around the south coast who would do the whole job.

Having witnessed the measurement and templating operation at first-hand, I would recommend getting a professional to do it. It took one person a good half a day to do mine.

I would however seriously consider installing it myself as I understand that many of the EVA products are supplied with a special 3M self-adhesive waterpoof tape already applied. One thing to think about is how difficult it will be to remove your existing decking and whether any preparation of the surface underneath is required.

If you do find a company then please do let the forum know how you got on.

Tye Conway at Elite Teak is your man. He manufactures Wasser Dek here in the UK, based in the Solent but travels all over the country. (EVA foam decking)

Hope I am not hijacking - tell me if so. I am a cheapskate and hope to fit some of this myself. Are there any good templating ideas I should follow? I am going to have to cut curves so am super keen to use a proven technique or tool. Thank you.

Looks really good, thanks. I'll give him a call. What sort of price was yours? I understand if you're not comfortable sharing that though. I've got a 28' with swim deck but not much actual flooring to cover due to seats.

You could, of course install your decking yourself - DIY
Here is a thread explaining how I did it.
DIY Synthetic Teak

Is Marine Deck the same as Marine Deck 2000? - available in the USA.
I had Marine Deck 2000 fitted to my RIB but I don't think it would be a good idea to fit it on the main boat - it is too soft.
Good with bare feet but not as a teak replacement - IMO.

This is the Marine Deck 2000 on my RIB

Thank you for the link, appreciated.
If you are considering making your own synthetic teak, since starting that thread, I bought a new welder.
The new welder is a Leister Hot Jet S and is significantly easier to use than my original welder.

This is the Leister Hot Jet S - smaller than my old one.
