I was due to run out to the boat, as I had some essential lab design work to do in Spain, via Eurotunnel on 27 December. No problem getting Covid tests, but I understand they have now limited entry to the following, so no longer essential workers permitted - anyone know any different? : It use to allow:
  • Commuting to and from work or university and training places; business trips that cannot be delayed.
Derogations now allowing entry into France for Britons or third-country nationals joining France from Great Britain are:
  • A third-country national, holder of a valid French or European long-stay residence or long-stay visa, with his main residence in France or who, in transit through France, his main residence in a European Union or assimilated country;
  • Third-country national, in transit of less than 24 hours in international areas; This would work from 1 Jan 2021, when we wold be a third country....
  • Member of official delegation or diplomatic or consular mission staff, or of an international organization with headquarters or office in France, as well as spouse or children;
  • Foreign health professional competing in the fight against Covid-19;
  • Foreign crew or personnel operating passenger and cargo flights, or travelling as a passenger to position themselves at their departure base;
  • A foreign national who handles international freight;
  • Bus or passenger train driver or crew
  • Crew member or person operating a commercial or fishing vessel;
  • Student holding a VLS, a VCS for studies or internships (excluding VCS Competition), or coming for less than 90 days from a country exempt from VCS, or a minor in school, justifying a place of accommodation in France;
  • Professor or researcher employed or invited by a French educational institution or research laboratory that travels for study and teaching purposes;
  • Third-country national with a "Talent Passport" VLS;
  • Persons benefiting from a pass issued by the Directorate General of Foreigners in France of the Ministry of the Interior, to facilitate the exercise of an economic activity, to allow the reconciliation of spouse or for medical reason.
I suppose on 1 Jan I would be a third-country national in transit, but not before?

Anyone have any more info on entry requirements?

John, I’m just spitballing here, but is there any chance that the labs you design are used for covid? It’s one of the exemptions

Fortunately, I was given written permission from the French Ministry of the Interior to transit France to Spain, we managed to get two tests at 5pm on Xmas day which came back negative on Boxing day, so arrived in the marina late on 28th December.

Containerised Labs were primarily for Malaria research but as they are containment level 3 could be used for C-19. I did tell them they were for Malaria and it is predicted they will save 400,000 lives a year. I must say the French were very helpful indeed. The labs have now left Valencia Port and on there way to Dar-Es-Salaam Port, just one more Teams meeting next week here on the boat, then back via Santander on Galicia ferry on 9th Jan. Not that I am looking forward to getting back, but I have other lab commitments that are related to C-19 at the Hammersmith campus, kicking off.

One more year to go before I retire thank goodness....!
