Hi

I am new to YBW and getting back into boating after 25 years Caravanning.

I am looking at purchasing a Cruiser in the South of France and having it shipped back to the UK

My question is would I be able to change the electrical outlets from 2 pin to 3 pin easily or would a rewire be needed

Easy to change, my Sea Ray (2002) is manufactured with Italian plug sockets and I just bought the UK type inserts and swapped them out. I got them through the UK agent.

Check the make of electrical fittings and you may find you can do the same, I also found some USB 5 volt sockets that the same manufacturer made and I was able to retro fit these, great for phone charging.

I bought thru BCU & they did it foc, so presumably not a major task, happily surprised though as ever dealing with them.

Can't see any problem just swapping the Eu for UK sockets over, as we use 220-240V across Eu. However, Sea Rays are generally built in the USA, although I believe a few were built in Eire, and unless already fixed, may be set up for 110V, which of course is not correct for Eu/UK.

I think the Sea Ray boats like mine (a 460 Sundancer) were built in USA but were set up with 220 volt systems from new.

Mine was built for the European (as opposed to UK market) and was fitted with double pin sockets. I found it very easy to track down replacement inserts that convert the sockets to UK spec units.

My Targa 33 has all french sockets for some reason even though it's always been south coast based. I just have plug adapter in each...saves a lot of messing about and works just as well.

Sea Ray has had a contract build agreement with an operation in Slepsk Poland for over 15 years now. If its somewhere between 24 and 32 ft then its definitely possible to be a polish built boat. The HIN should give you certainty (it has PL in stead of US as first 2 letters)
