European boat building

Just browsing my, ahh, Breezy exclusive magazine, and a bit surprised it claims that Poland now builds more boats than any other European country.
In trying to check that out, I came across another startling stat.. 72pct of European boat sales (doesn't say new, but I will assume so) is for motor boats.
I was going to assume that , as per other thread, it is because mobo owners are such super, cheerful folk that why wouldn't you have a boat?. I won't post the link as the article went on to talk about mobo popularity being due to ease of control and suitable for the masses, while sail is.. well never mind that.
Clearly 72 pct is totally wrong and the whole article can be sent to trash.

Same reason the motor car replaced the horse and cart. Not surprised that there aren't any sailboat manufacturers at boat shows these days and most big sailboat manufacturers have started building motorboats. You can't halt progress. Soon the only sailboats you'll see will be in museums (along with their owners)

They do make an awful lot of Ribs, so in pure number terms the Polish percentage could be high. :encouragement:

Nope just responding to gjgm's point about 72% of European boat sales being mobos. Anyway sometimes I just need to get these things off my chest

Worth noting that a lot of the Scandinavian and other European yards have moved their production to Poland ....

On the Norwegian front the most noticeable here is probably Windy, who moved production of the sub 40 feet boats to Poland in 2012 / 2013 ... believe there are at least 7 - 10 Scandinavian & European yards who have moved production to Poland .... so entirely feasible that they have such a high market share, which does include their own marques such as Galeon etc...

Sailboats only usually any use at sea there are a lot of inland canals and rivers in Europe, also any commercial type user or anybody who actualy wants to get anywhere reliably on time is not going to choose sails, fishermen, RNLI, police, forces etc...
