Euromillionaire.......!!!!!!!!!

Loved the potted plants.....

Why not just buy the video game if you wanna sail by buttons /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A slight variation on the 'What would I do with the Lottery money' muse.....

Approaching the BoatShow entrance, we looked at the huge Sunseeker on a trailer outside the glass pyramid, and she queried what we'd do if we won that in a lottery. Each one of us, would, unanimously sell it and buy a sailboat.

Question is, which one? I spent most of my day at the show pondering that! ( Except when the free gin-n-lime was being offered! )

Now, I've sailed on a lot of sweet boats over a lot of years - from Hoshi to an all-carbon racing tri, and everything in between - and I know you can tell a boat with real character within seconds of taking the tiller/wheel.

I reckon that, without kids, mortgage or maintenance payments, I'd happilly put up to 75% of the realised value of that great stinkpot-on-wheels into a good sailboat.

I reckon the second-best fun I've had afloat was dinghy-camping abroad, I've been impressed by big-ish trimarans ( but not small ones ) and I'm attracted to performance yachts that have room for a shower, a few bottles of 'social lubricant', and a couple of unread books. One of the BCPC replicas at the recent Bristol sea-event had me drooling...

Oh! And she needs to be capable of being run by one competent bloke on watch. Or a girlie ( but those I've met usually want to make a song and dance about it! )

So, forumites, which one?

At my advanced age a little comfort is due...

I think it's about the largest boat a couple could handle because there are power systems to handle anything physical.

Also the quality of the finish has to be seen to be believed.

If I could .....

I don't want anything too big or fancy .... I just wnat a boat that can be enjoyed without having to have lopads of people to manage the boat ....

So it would be call Moody and get them to roll back out the Eclipse 43 moulds ... a bit of personal interior design and re-arrangment - probably alter her to a ketch ... with twin headsails etc.

If that's not possible then it's off to Halberg Rassy or Hinkley to discuss that 40ft+ job ....

Nope - I've seen various boats that very rich people have ... with all the crews etc. - I still think that I would love to be actually still pulling the ropes, helming etc. no matter how much money is in the bank !!

For example :

Would it be this floating hotel and casino job - playground of a whole community ??

Or an older style with character :

Even a more modest older boat .....

The trouble is that there are so many variations and so many things that I want in a boat - I think I would have to buy more than one !!!

Here is a boat that I have personal connection with and if I won a modest sum - would consider taking on ... 60ft Clipper Ship - Castro designed Circumnavigator .....

Euromillionaire, apparently.

Apparently I keep winning lotteri I've never heard of, let alone entered, but I just can't be bothered to send them my bank details.

As to Amel, I'm sure it's a great yot from a naval architecture p-o-v, and a technowizzkid p-o-v, and a washing machine installer's p-o-v, but it's a pity they employ a designer whose speciality is garden sheds.

Re: Great Movie

Personaly, something around 30ft that my wife and I could manage and live on in the med for our (early) retirement.

Moody 33 is the favorite monohull at the moment, Gemini the favorite cat.

I'd be happy just(?) to get rid of the mortgage and have a Sabre 27 or Konsort.

Am I not dreaming big enough? It feels big from where I'm standing!

I already have my perfect boat bought and paid for. No mortgage, no debts and now no job.

Did I win the lottery? No I just worked my butt off for 20 years with this goal in mind.

You can achieve whatever you want in this world if you just put your mind to it and work hard. Nothing wrong with hoping for it to land in your lap but its not likely.

Re: Great Movie

I think I agree with Duncan. The Amel's too posh for me. A vaguely realistic dream involves a 33-36ft moderate displacement job. The six little numbers version probably wouldn't be a lot bigger, but might well involve a trip to Sweden or Finland...

For me it was always the first Oyster 435 Deck Saloon around 43 ft and lovely to countenance. Also would be reasonable to sail and maintain so that the lottery money would not run out half way round the world.
However, I have something that twinkles me just as well right now. When I finish paying for it then we shall see if it fulfils the dreams.....

Funny you say that .... adrianm ....

MY boat is small, old, not your biggest volume cram in the gizmos AWB .... BUT ... it is paid for, it owes me nothing .... it does the job ....

Certain people who sailed on it when they didn't have a boat were very glad of the opportunity ... they then hocked themselves to the eyeballs to get themselves something .. and said .... "actually nige - your boat is s..t"- Well excuse me for ever thinking you would appreciate my giving boat to use ...( this is NOT the Boat share recently posted .... it is a totally different matter .... )

I have 2 boats completely paid for .... no credits etc. on them ... they may not be the grandest - BUT THEY ARE MINE ALL MINE !!!!

What a wonderful feeling ...................... THEY cannot feel that way ... no matter how good THEIR awb is !!!! I know they will be paying for YEARS and YEARS !!!!

My inner-smile !!

Trivia

Your first motor job was Eco renamed Katana by Larry Ellison boss of Oracle. It could travel at 33 knts and when he wanted to cross the Atlantic with it he would send a fuel tanker ahead to wait for him in mid Atlantic. He sold it recently when he took delivery of his 458' yacht, the second largest ever. He still has another superyacht as well as an 85' maxi.

It's another world.

Cheers ..........

Took the photo off Cowes a few year ago ....... she had mobos ferrying all sorts to and from her .... never really found out much about her ... so out of my world and actually not my "cup of tea" ... love the money that would have paid for her though !!!!!!!

You say a tanker would meet them mid atlantic ...... just trying to imagine a tanker suitable .... etc !!
