Essential kit list for a 24ft boat?

1. Juicer.
2. Knife drawer.
3. Baby intercom.
4. Spare USB cable.
5. Ream of A4 paper (preferably white)
6. Depth sounder, or lead tied to string.
7. Spare juicer. Can’t be too careful risking scurvy on passage to Guernsey.
8. Set of small plastic bottles.
9. Skateboard.
10. Roll of roofing felt.
11. Toaster.
12. Toasting fork.
13. Jamie Oliver’s book on toasting cuisine.
14. BBQ.
15. Surround sound system.
16. A paperclip.
17. Food.
18. Six Lidl fire extinguishers.
19. Wet suit.
20. Bag of liquorice torpedoes.
21. Pens. You can never have enough pens.
22. AA road map. The one that shows a bit of France would be helpful.
23. Coach bolts for mounting plasma screen. Make sure they are 316 stainless, or the bits sticking through the hull can rust.
24. A very large sea trailer or good Halfords roof rack.

Your knowledge of juicing is pitifully inadequate. A liquidiser chews the entire fruit, or vegetable into a mush suitable for toothless small children and Grandmas who don’t mind drinking pureed vegetable matter. A juicer extracts the juice leaving the pips, rind, skin and other hard pieces as a dry pulp suitable for the compost heap.

Ditch the liquidiser and you can even get rid of that lemon squeezing thingy that no one ever uses.

May I suggest Paul Gobbits excellent tome: Juicing for beginners. I don’t know the ISDN number, but I am sure Waterstones or WH Smiths will know of it.

They take any universal bracket but be careful, some are a bit bulky.

I got the Omnimount fixed lcd bracket (19.99) from Currys as it's doesn't protrude much. They also do a similar tilting one for about twice the price but I didn't see the need:

I mounted mine on the wall between the dinette and the toilet/shower. Only problem was that there was a mirror on the other side. To get round this and add stability, I ditched the supplied fixings, removed the mirror, drilled holes and bolted through from the mirror side with countersunk machine screws and then put mirror back over the screw heads:

It's 240v but I have shore power and a 600watt inverter for when I'm away from that.

They also do a 26" version for around 700 quid if want to go large.

17" will be fine I think, I would like to know the full external measurements if you have them handy. I have a wardrobe between the heads and the forward cabin, but a big space between the mid cabin and the hallway above the doorway, or I have the space at the bow end of the forward cabin, neither will be a proble to run the power to.

I bought an inverter so will have to get that fitted, I was looking at 135amp batteries, Samsons I think (from South Africa) and was going to exchange them for the standard 85amp ones, i have a battery charger built in so with shore power they should give me some nice power for the odd day or night out.

The invertor is 1,000 watts and I also have a back up petrol generator Honda EU10i that I would like to plug into the shore power for the toaster when at sea. I take it that I could just plug the shore power lead with adapter into the generator?

Thanks for all the help.

Here are some suggestions:

However, can I counsel you to be careful that you don't overload your boat? This can lead to critical comments from some forumites, particularly tcm, who has quite doctrinaire views on the subject.

I lay awake most of last night agonising over your essential equipment list for your 24ft boat. It occurred to me, especially if you go with the backup juicer plan, you will need to save some weight.

Have you thought of ditching the toaster and other cooking equipment and going for a Breville Sandwich toaster instead?

I know these tend to languish in the back of kitchen cupboards, but in your boat that will not be a problem as you will be falling over it most of the time.

If you have a fly bridge, you can even prepare and eat nourishing and wholesome snacks whilst on the move.

I haven’t tried it yet, but the thought of a freshly caught mackerel snug between two freshly Brevilled slices certainly gets the juices flowing.

There’s one in the eye to those raggies!

According the specs I've just seen ebay it's: Dimensions 27 x 48 x 8.7(H/W/D)cm.

I have 3 x 135 ah batteries and a 95ah starter battery and a 600 watt inverter.

Yes you can plug generator into shore power with a suitable adaptor.

As for the inverter, with 1000 watts you'll need some fairly heavy wire for the 12volts from the batteries, here's a wire sizing chart (remember distances are round trip not one way)

but normal 240volt for the rest, so you'll want to site it as near the batteries as possible, but not in the bilge as it wont be ignition protected. I mounted mine on a shelf in the aft berth and plugged in a long 4 socket extension that runs hidden alll along the port side with the 4 sockets near the bow. Up to you as to where you want the sockets unless you're going to wire it into your 240v system, in which case you'll need to isolate it from your shore power and generator 240 supply.

well you seem to have plenty of spaces between your heads ! room I would say for plenty of blackberry juicers /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
