Esper Refit 40-45 - Tent Down, Esper Revealed (3 embedded video clips & lots of pics)
We've been so busy these last few weeks that I've barely had time to do internety stuff. We do, however, have some video updates and pics to show you.
Yachtie Fund Raiser
We hooked up with s/y Totem who have a huge following online. Not surprising since they are one fantastic family and I recruited the kids to help project manage Esper's refit for a week (I think I posted that one up already but you can catch the video here: http://followtheboat.com/2014/11/06/esper-refit-39/). Two days before Totem left the yard Mum Behan raised over $1300 from donations through her website, which bought the local kids (most of whose parents work in the shipyard) school uniforms, bicycles, scooters, books and pens. It was inspiring to see Behan do this in less than a week so I interviewed her about how it came about and then went to visit some of the workers in their homes. PSS Shipyard built the houses for the workers and assist in helping them get visas and settled in etc.
Of all the Esper refit video updates, this is most definitely the best one - it's a bit of a tear-jerker.
The yard workers and their children with s/y Totem crew
Behan handing out school books
Sopah, a Burmese who isn't allowed to go to school in Thailand, receives a shiny new bike
Pizza was supplied by Liverpudlian Bobby, who has a pizza joint in town (which I frequent too often)
Tent Down, Masts Up
After ten months under a tent, we finally got to see what our top-sides and new deck look like in sunlight.
Getting the masts up was a bit of a headache since one of the cables slipped down inside the mast and, once that was sorted, we couldn't get the backstays on.
We managed it in the end but it didn't help that we chose the hottest day in the season to do it all. It was pretty tiring work. Anyway, you can see how we got on in the latest update and short video clip. Blog link here: http://followtheboat.com/2014/12/14/esper-refit-45-tent-down-masts-up-davits-on
I think there are a few more update photos and videos that I haven't got round to posting up. We send out emails similar to these YBW updates as soon as a blog post is published, so if you're interested, go here: http://followtheboat.us2.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=9e2bca4181351834d8c05a332&id=6304482c99
