Here in Rebak Marina (Langkawi, Malaysia) a few boats have put their lights up. As I stated in a previous thread Liz and I try to out-chav our neighbours by going over the top with lights and tinsel. Our neighbours, Keith and Christine of 'Poco Andante' have some rather tasteful, simple lights that run up the forestay and down the backstay, so in true tradition we've bought the standard down by running two 10m red lights from the front awning back to the mizzen, two 2m blue and green lights around the cockpit, two 10m rope lights up the mizzen, and two multicoloured lights around the base of the mizzen and up the main sheet. Liz spent the day decorating, covering the winches with Santa hats, gave Millie's throne a disco look including a glitter ball, and a sleigh for mini-Santa in the cockpit!

As usual YBW does not allow me to post up any images (they're all under 100kb and 600px - any clues?), but you can see some day time and night shots here: http://www.followtheboat.com/2013/12/22/esper-lights-up-for-christmas/

Merry Christmas to all liveaboards around the world!

That sounds so tasteful , pictures would be great !

Sadly I drew the short straw!

This xmas and New Year and will be spent with 12 Filipino's onboard a support vessel in Luanda (Angola) helicopter restrictions of 10kg meant I couldnt bring much with me and my jar of Marmite (extra old) was confiscated by airport security (heathens) so Ive postponed christmas to the end of January when I will be back home and in the local Irish bar (every where in the world) getting drunk and being general raucous, enjoy your selves eat , drink be merry.... ho ho ho

Ian

Confiscating Marmite - that is a heinous crime for sure. :(

Which makes me wonder - they must have classified it as a 'liquid' (which security get very paranoid about) - but if Marmite is a liquid, where is the cut off point / border before it becomes an acceptable substance to pass through Security?

What country bans Marmite, Ian? That's an outrage!

Gents I can only tell you my travel plan and let you decide what Morons would ban a hard working Brit from a little Marmite happiness over Christmas

I boarded a coach from Bristol after visiting my aged mother , the coach driver got a whiff of the marmite , gave me a nod and a wink and said "Marmite extra old" I smiled a reply and winked, he said no more about the subject until I got off the coach in Heathrow, when he said "have a safe journey" and did the special marmite lovers hand shake , I knew I was amongst friends at that point.

my first flight was from Heathrow, I sailed through check in as the staff were tucking into their lunch, I smelt Marmite on their breath, although I fear it wasnt Marmite EXTRA OLD ! I only carry hand luggage so had no fear of the dreaded baggage flingers discovering my secret bounty, I got through Passport control and baggage scanning without a hitch, the officer there had brown lips , could have been sucking ass for promotion though I suspect the brown substance was indeed Marmite !

I landed in ( crowd takes deep breath ) ...FRANCE (crowd now booing and hissing) where I had a mere hour to indulge my alcoholic requirements and hide the marmitey breath smell.......

Next flight was from France (crowd booing) to Luanda..... The French Marmite scanner went off as soon as I went through the security door, there were alarms and bells and sirens all going off, the specially trained Marmite sniffer dogs were going wild as I walked the hall of shame into the interogation chamber, the French security agent had a full rubber suit on and those big rubber gloves that vets use, I seriously thought he was going to look deep under cover for any additional jars of Marmite I may have hidden on my person.

As it was I got let off with a stern warning about the use of controlled substances on French soil, the marmite XO was incinerated in front of me as a punishment, I'm traumatised by the whole experience, Christmas just wont be the same without the Marmite XO, Im sat on the bridge now with a tear in my eye, the filipinos are being supportive but they just dont understand the significance of it all.

Its hard not hating the French after this (I work for french company) but it often shines through when emailing work colleagues in Paris, I think Im the only Marmite muncher left on the books theyve irradicated all the others, damn shame , they were good men, I heard some were hiding out in other offices around the world such as Oslo and Singapore, I even got words of a sanctuary in Sydney.

Its too late for me gentlemen - watch out for yourselves now.

This is a major concern. I'm glad you've been able to share your pain with us but I would think twice about posting stuff like this up on t'internet. It's traceable and you're probably being monitored as you read this. I'd be careful. I might have a number you can call that might help you out of this pickle but you did not get this number off me and I do not know you.

Lol looking good on Esper - have followed your blog for some time, and enjoyed it.

We join the cruising ranks in Feb 2014 for an extended drift to wherever we end up.

Happy Xmas all and if you see a cat called Two Drifters in an anchorage near you pop by for a tinny

Dont get me started on Pickle........ Bring out the Branston ? ...you'd never get that past the buggers either!

fear not, retirement beckons my friend

coming your way soon : another broken Brit in a marmite free anchorage

Not normally pro-french, but the white wine and the cheese might make me weaken...........

Looking forward to being able to follow Liz and Jamie in the next few years :-)

Neil

OMG ..... you must be such a disappointment to your parents - Pro French ....AND..... Anti Marmite !

:-)

Jamie Marmite seems to have Hi jacked your thread ...sorry

Hehe, it's ok. This Marmite issue needs to be addressed.

Hope you all had a great day. We had a tasty buffet dinner by the pool and then hung out by the beach under the palm trees talking bollicks.
