Ermm, anybody gotta Autohelm 6000?

After bleeding my steering system it became obvious that my autopilot did not appear to be connected to my compass.I am trying to figure out how it holds a course without being connected(apparently) to a compass etc etc.Lighten my darkness somebody.

it should have a fluxgate compass positioned somewhere at the front of the boat

I am going to assume the perishing thing is well hidden.Only visible compass is on dash.Investigation of same resulted in two visible wires which only go to bulb for illumination.Curiouser and curiouser ?
Maybe will try to follow assorted wires from big black box and see if any go towards the bows

you are not looking for a steering compass, this one is a black box and will be fitted on an athwart bulkhead, with the provision to alter heading from left to right, keep hunting you will find it.

The 'sensor' compass on my autohelm 7000 is screwed to a bulkhead beneath the aft cabin bunk. Its a rectangular black box with wires and things.

If boat is a steel boat the Fluxgate compass may be on the radar arch. if not it could be anywhere from a dry bildge area to a cupboard. Try Raymarine website www.raymarine.co.uk (or Com) A picture of the fluxgate will be available so you know what you are looking for (it looks nothing like a steering compas)
