\'ere, mister, where\'s that?

So there you are, launching your lunch as you get ready to scribble down today's shipping forecast (one of the nastiest for a long time), when Brian Perkins throws you with "THE GENERAL SYNOPSIS AT MIDDAY. VIGOROUS ATLANTIC LOW 480 MILES WEST OF BELMULLET 952 EXPECTED CAPE WRATH 960 BY MIDDAY TOMORROW"

So not only do you have to say your prayers, you've also got to go 50/50, phone a friend, or ask the audience where the heck Belmullet is.

Wouldn't it be better if the met orifice stuck to using widely understood geographical references, like Cape Wrath?

PS - best wishes to anybody at sea in the next 24 hours.

Belmullet. A fine wee town at the N.W.corner of Co.Mayo in the west of Ireland. One of the main reporting stations of Met Eireann is situated there. Try http://www.weather.ie/ and look up their weather reports in the sea area section.
By the way, when I looked a while ago, Belmullet had 60kts of wind.

Luvly!

I was out from Hamble on a charter yacht this weekend Fri/Sat/Sun. Had a fab time but common sense did prevail on Sat and we stayed in Haslar for the day. When Solent forecats F10s .....
Today was a good sail back in 35/40kts wind, the sea state was really quite good, viz poor, saw only one other yacht out there but he disappeared somewhere off Gilkicker.

Heard that Bridge buoy was last seen outside Yarmouth!

It's either in Argentina, or a suburb in Melbourne (Oz)

C'mon, Old Harry. We had a thread on this subject about a month ago. Fitzroy will be where Finisterre is today, more or less. You'd better have another look at Plymouth too. It's boundaries have been changed.

I\'ve got one of those tea-towels too!

And my mobile phone ringtone is 'Sailing By'. How sad is that? (sorry for digression)
