'Ere Dylan, someones nicked your heater...

It seems to be an annual event of people nicking your idea...I've just seen this one:

http://tiphero.com/flower-pot-heater/

it was not my idea..... the war department recommended a similar idea for heating anderson shelters

although in the war department design they placed two flower pots stacked rim to rim to make a cylinder with a wide bit in the middle and they used just one candle.

I was cold in my office so I lit four tealights in a bread tin

the heat went straight up to the ceiling so I tried putting a flower pot over it (an old sailors trick used with primus stoves) I thought it would never work but it did seem to help by creating a more organised convection flow.

The pot was getting bloomin hot so I experimented by putting a coin over the hole

the flower pot got really hot

way too hot to touch

I did some experiments with a joss stick to see where the airflow was going. The high heat but lowish airflow meant that the very hot air was going straight up to the ceiling

so I then put a second flower pot over the outside and the air flow increased and it started to behave more like a bathroom convector heater

it obviously produced no more heat than the four candles but it spread that heat over a greater volume of air and seemed to eradicate the cold spots around my feet

This winter I have been heating the inside of the centaur with it on the occasional night when I leave the pontoon with lekkie and spenbd the night on the hook. I still use it even on the pontoon during the evening when I get fed up with the fan heater roar and the dry eyes..

of course there are those who would say that I am just imagining that I am warm and that this can never work

few of them have actually tried it in a sensibly small space and seem to fail to listen to the bit about convection.

the original film got around six million hits before I eventually removed it from the web because it was making the sailing films hard to find when people typed my name into the web.. All that came up in google was flower pots, thermodynamics and angry blokes calling me a know nothing deluded twassock.

Needless to say the revenue from the six million hits (normally worth around $10,000 dollars) was being trousered by a well know internet company. the film is still on here though

You all seem to be missing the most vital point. These Egloos are designed by a fine arts designer and come in designer colours, so are obviously worth the ridiculously small price of only 83 Euros.:)

Lets remember they do give off carbon monoxide and use up Oxygen so could kill you if used in a small enclosed space ...ie a boat ! so if used there MUST be ventilation.......In fact is it a Silly idea in a boat?

candles give off CO2 and and some soot

as far as I know they burn pretty clean and do not give off CO - which is the killer

Dylan you were correct in your first description about being told that they kill. I love the idea and as I am not rich enough to have always have a marina berth with electric I think I might just give this a try.

Ps Mrs E says could you stop calling yourself the terms she uses for me as I could get confused. She assures me that I am the biggest idiot and fool she has knows off.
