Epoxy filler

When using a super lightweight filler with epoxy, what is the diff between Talc powder and light weight filler... Has anyone tried mixing the two or using just talc?? The price of filler is crazy...

I have used the sanding dust from my beltsander's bag. It makes a good filler but is very hard when finishing.

There are many times that you dont need filler if its a small repair. What I do is leave the gel coat out in the sun (did I say sun) for 20 mins and then catalise it, it gets quite thick that way

G’day Robert.
You can use talc as a filler if the extra weight is no problem and the area is above the water line and not in a wet area, and, yes you cam make a mix of talc and other fillers. Have you priced Q-cells, they do a good job, are light and easy to sand to a very smooth finish much like Micro Balloons but less than half the cost. Any repair below the water line is best filled with a closed cell filler to reduce (nothing is 100% waterproof) water entry; Micro spheres do an excellent job and easy to sand to a smooth finish.

G’day Robert.
You can pick up a small bag of Q-cells from just about any fibreglass supplier and you have a good range of them in Sydney. Try the paint and panel suppliers first, I find them cheaper than marine suppliers.
