My GME MT403 EPIRB needs a battery change which is around £180 (prob plus sending costs to Sartech).

Checking on Sartech's web site there is a new model MT603 discounted to £269 including UK delivery.

That's a no brainer for me, ordered.

Hopefully helps someone

Edit: No connection to them just a long term customer

Took mine to Giles on the marina ( La Nap ) sent it away ....was €180 inc tax for a service to do the batts .
Just thought its registered etc and comes back with a test cert .

Interestingly you may be aware of the Fr requirement to carry a minimum flare pack , and furthermore not to carry out of date flares .Irrc a new pack is about €300 .
Last time I got mine from that shop next to the dry stack on the river opposite the airport on the road to Lidl .
Giles can be pricy .

Never been asked by officials, but saw one guy “being done “.
Been “ done “ 3 times in Fr ..just paper work , reg doc , insurance, qualifications , but not a kit check ....YET ??

How ever once between the Lerins a Rib nutter with about 12 pax ,( 3 families ) kept bombing through full tilt .
Not a one off a annoying few times .
Blue light “ ville d Cannes “ caught up with him next to where I was anchored .
Ring side seat . :) , as I lay on the sun pad pretending not to notice .

Took about 40 mins went through the whole boat , looking at stuff inc flares + much more .....a lot of tickets being written .
Best one was when they made them all attempt to put there life jackets on .
There was not enough obviously and get this .....they picked up a kid who was wearing one and he fell out .Because it was an adult LV on a 6 year old .

So after witnessing a Fr jobsworth “ doing “ someone.......I thought better go through our own stuff and check its all worthy .
This was last season and Brexit was supposed to happen .....so thought best to dot the i,s and cross the t,s .

Might be worth Med boaters finding out what the local kit list is ?

As said out of date flares , wrong spec ( they have min pack ) could attract a fine in Fr .
Same with your ERIPB ....needs to be in date .
Liferaft ...check local rules / requirements.

It is interesting how different countries apply very different rules for safety equipment.
In Australia you now need a "float free" EPIRB (not just automatically activated) if going offshore. These are twice the price of manual device.

Flares seem a bit outdated. I won't be buying any pyrotechnics for my next boat but will get a RescueMe electronic "flare".

In an emergency my options for attracting attention will then be electronic flare, VHF, DSC, PLB and EPIRB and possibly mobile phone.

Having seen people struggling to fire handheld flares for the first time, and my own attempt at firing a rocket flare, I think these devices are extremely dangerous.

I assume that the requirements quoted are for French registered boats?
