Anyone catch the snippet on radio 4 the other day? Apparently the Navy are using Saatchi & Saatchi to give the White Ensign a makeover as they feel their image is 'dated'...

Does the panel agree?

I;'ll do it and charge them a lot less, give the job to me, go on let me do it, I can spend shed loads of money, and then come up with the ensign with maybe a small change.. they'll love it

Think they'll come up with a white background with a aunion flag in the corner - and still charge £40k.

Tell em to leave well alone IMHO

Bloody good idea. Bit of Retro Kitch wouldn't go amiss. Its looking well dated. Get Llewlyn-Bowen on the job.

Its done and dusted. It was Saaaaatchi and Saaaatchi (what kind of ponce needs more than one A?), not sure of the budget, but it was not the white ensign that was changed, it was the navy logo that they use on promo pictures and headed paper etc...

Flag itself remains un changed.

<hr width=100% size=1>Sod the Healey - I think I'll buy an E-Type.

Did I hear something about a new flag needed ? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

The beeb talked about a new ensign.. though the quality of their reporting isn't great ... just checked our wire (Reuters) and nowt.

However Daily Torygraph said:

"The old logo, a fluttering White Ensign on top of the words "Royal Navy", did not put across the full range of the Navy's capabilities, the agency said. The ensign also fluttered down. The ensign on the new logo still flutters but does not droop. The only other change is the replacement of a neutral background with a blue one."

£100k... money obviously well spent... *pffft*

Paper went on saying

"A Navy spokesman said a survey "found that we do not present a very coherent image. The ensign in the new logo has more of a 3-D effect."

The spokesman refused to discuss cost. But when the £100,000 figure was suggested, he said it included "a number of things, not just the logo refreshment".

Asked for a picture of the new logo, the Navy declined, saying that it had not been finally approved."

I wonder where they dug that prat of a spokesman up... coherent image?

Bit sad really.. used to abe a time where a dozen gun ships at anchor off a foreign coast was all the coherence the service needed.

aww feck... fetch me pipe and slippers.. I think membership of the Cruising Association is getting to me...
