Enkes AR6 winch

If your Enkes winches are similar to mine (8 point star) then yes you can use third party winch handles. I have two old Enkes handles and they have a square 'key' on the end. We use Titan floating handles.

My mast winches are AR20s

Handle

Hi All,

I brought a winch handle from ebay for £10 for my Enkes AR6 winches but my winches are not twin speed and the winch handle keeps hitting the stanchion upright when i try to use it, which means i have to take it out and reposition it and start whiching again. Not ideal.

Does anyone know if i can buy a handle with a ratchet built in? I have looked on line for Enkes but cant seem to find anything.

You may have a 10" handle, you can get 8" ones a lot cheaper than a ratcheting winch handle. I suspect your winches are 2-speed, normally a single speed winch will ratchet itself.
Edit
Ahh, just looked it up, non-ratcheting.

I have two Enkes AR6 winches on my 1983 MacGregor Venture 21' sloop. The large flathead screw in the top center of the barrel is frozen, so I can't service them. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, assuming I can open them up, what kind of lubricant should I use on the palls and bearings? Thanks.

My initial thoughts would be to soak it for a week with penetrating oil (or maybe diesel). Then try a tap with an impact screwdriver.
For lubrication use a small amount of standard (yellow) high pressure grease on the bearings and thin oil (3-in-one type) on the pawls.

Edit: Just a thought, is it possible the screw is a left hand thread?
