Engines from Indonesia

I am thinking of putting a more powerful engine in my boat. Perhaps a Beta 14 or Yanmar 2ym.
Both engines are advertised on the internet from Indonesia based firms for a fraction of the price (inc. delivefy) than if purchased here in the UK.
Does anyone have experience of buying one from there? Are these firms reliable?

I'd never previously heard of them.

They claim to supply engines from a very unusually wide range of manufacturers. They are not listed on Beta Marine's website as a Beta agent. It seems unlikely that they could legitimately sell in the UK an engine marinised in the UK undercutting the manufacturer and its agents on price. What sort of guarantees and after-sales support could they possibly offer, I wonder.

p.s. Having looked further at their website it appears to me they offer no warranty, and claim to despatch orders in 1 day, but clearly don't hold all the engines they illustrate in stock.

There is a Yanmar distributer out there but its possible they wont have a CE rating or meet RCD2?

I am looking for a more powerful engine for my boat. A Yanmar 2YM or Beta 14 would fit nicely. I have seen internet sites in Indonesia offering these for sale at a fraction of the UK price. They offer delivery included in the price within 7 to 10 days.
I want to check out whether or not these are a credible option. Does anyone have any experience or know whether anyone has successfully ordered an engine? EG www.inboardenginesale.com

What is their after sales service like? Do they use standard consumable parts, e.g. oil filters? Can you get spares if the big end goes on a dark and stormy night?

I think the guarantee is offered by the engine manufacturer which is international and can even extend to self installation which I also intend to do. Yanmar and Beta engines have spares easily obtainable in the UK so that isn't really the worry. The fundamental question is if you part with your hard earned, will you actually end up with an engine?

Ring Beta and ask them if they have an Indonesian distributor. I'm betting that they don't, and if that part isn't true then you know what you're looking at.

Is it possible to pay with PayPal or some other way where there is a guarantee

Got to larf at this... BUT, a local friend had his ancient rotorvator gasp out. Cheaper solution was an eastern Honda clone, at less than the parts to fix the old motor, which were not easily available. €140 fixed it, and it is going fine.

I wouldnt be too sure about that. In many cases the manufacturer requires the regions dealer to handle guarantees from his mark up and naturally enough the local man isnt too keen on doing guarantee work on discounted parallel imports. This is common to a lot of industries.

But ask yourself how it is that someone in Indonesia is abpe to offer a UK assembled engine as with Beta for a fraction as you put it of the UK cost. Do you really think that the UK distributors are making margins of 50/60/70% ?

Nope.

The "About us" is very dodgy English. The outboards for sale section is presented in good, colloquial American, how can you get that many good large outboards in one place and punt them all over the world? . This is the sort of guff that goes on:

scamnet

As mentioned above, I think you will be kissing goodbye to your cash.
