Many thanks to all for help with removing the bolts at the base of my mast. Foot of the mast now removed. Applying heat to the mast was not an option so I went the other way. I froze the area using "Rost off Ice " its in a spray form and reduces the area down to -40c and allows the inbuilt penetrant to to find its way down the thread. if you ever get the problem again, applying heat in the form of a kettle of boiling water can make a big difference and its safe in most cases
