I'm considering getting some help replacing the engine which is really getting past it now so I am looking for recommendations of an engineer to do this.

One of the options I am considering is a like-for-like replacement with a reconditioned engine - so would like someone who would be open to considering that rather than someone who wants to do a full replacement (including sterngear!)

The Solent area is a big place, and most good engineers are so busy they don't need to travel. It might help if you were more specific about the area within the Solent. Where is the boat?
It is not a house boat - I am happy to take it to an appropriate boatyard (as you say many engineers have a home base where they prefer to work)

In fact the boat is in Ocean Village but they don't have a boatyard so I will have to move somewhere to get the work done anyway

Hi

Talk to SAL Marine in Lymington or their yard West Solent Boat Builders in Keyhaven, they did the shipwright engine & shaft line up stuff, supplied the crane and technical support when I fitted my new engine last year. Excelent service reasonable costs.

Very satisfied customer.

Hope this helps

Regards Seadog.

Try speaking to David Stopard at MES in Ocean Quay, just up the river from you. He does mainly gas work now but started as a mechanical engineer and has a great workshop. No affiliation to an engine manufacturer so happy to do what you want. Tel: 07971624295 or info@msel.co.uk
