Hello everyone.
Last year I sold my sailboat to buy a motorboat equipped with 2 Volvo TAMD61A.
The boat is in Brittany in France on a river.
I prepare the frost protection.
On the sailboat (Perkins 4108) I filled the seawater circuit with anti-freeze liquid by opening the seawater decantation filter.
The Volvo instruction manual recommends draining the seawater circuit.
I prefer to use the same method as on the Perkins but I have no idea how much volume to put.
The Volvo manual gives the capacity of the primary cooling circuit, not that of the seawater circuit.
What is your practice please?

Close seacock
open the Seawater filter,
start engine and pour premixed antifreeze into filter while engine is running.
Fill until antifreeze comes out of exhaust.
Abt 15 ltr should do it.

thats all

This is what I do, but given the boat is in the water I did wonder about the pollution when starting the engine in the spring (so much so that I tried to catch it all in a bucket from the exhaust outlet - don't ask how that went ;-)

Presumably it's fairly toxic?

Non-toxic anti-freeze is available, which is what we use.

As you are referring to the saltwater curcuit then I assume your mooring is on a tidal/saltwater river so is there really a risk of ice? What do the locals do?

I used the term "seawater circuit" because it is the term usually used. My boat is in a river behind a lock so it is in fresh water. The locals fill the circuit with anti-freeze liquid.
