Perkins 6.354 weighs 600 kg (5.9 ltr)

Ford Sabre/Mermaid based on dover or dorset weighs 600 kg (5.8 ltr)

The all aluminium Steyr weighs 300 (4 ltr)

According to Samurai Website 6.2 ltr GM V8 weighs 300 kg? Is this right? Is it Aluminium? Why so light?

You shure that is with marinising kit and gearbox ? Know it is relatively light fir a V8, but did not think it was that light ....

"Available up to 400hp at only 430kg the engines are compact yet still maintain a 6.5 litre displacement to add performance as well as overall durability. Being based on a GM 6.5L diesel, most service parts are available at GM outlets in all regions of the planet."

from Marine Maintenance

know that tht's the later 6.5 L ... but not 150 KG heavier...

AFAIK the GM V8 diesels are all cast iron; 300kg sounds like the weight without manifolds or other marinising stuff, which could easily add another 150kg or so. The basic long engine is that light because V8s are relatively compact and weight efficient compared to the conventional straight six lumps.

How about some Allison T63s? A spiffing 250+hp and only 120kg; only problem being the fuel bowser you need to tow behind.....

Cheers,
David

Have been looking at other engine in this range; Nanni do some that has (Toyota based) 200hp for 350kg inc. gearbox, or 300hp for 450kg.

cheers,
David
