The engine alarm on my Volvo 2002 goes off whenever the engine is started, but I cannot work out why.
When the key is turned (before starting the engine), the warning lights show, but if the engine is started, although the alarm sounds immediately and continuously, no warning lights appear with the alarm. The oil seems ok, the engine hasn't had time to overheat.
This has only happened recently, and the engine has always run perfectly, and still appears to start and run without problem (though obviously I don't want to run it until I can trace the problem).
Any ideas?? I'm baffled by this one. Thanks.

I think that you have a electric problem. Like the tranducers are only switches if you connect the wire running to them to earth when the engine is running, you will can test if the lights are on.

I experienced the same problem when my engine was in its second season's use. When I took advice I was told that the alternator was not being energised on start up and therefore the warning bleep would sound continuously. The remedy, I found, was to start up with the gear box button depressed, momentarily give the engine a blip of throttle and then immediately return the throttle to the normal stand by idling position. No problems since then.

Turns out it was a problem with damp in the control panel, after removing and drying for a couple of days all worked well. Thanks for the advice everyone.
