Looking to buy a mobo in the 38 foot range

Who would be good to use for engine survey on Iveco 300s around the Swansea area?

Already have a surveyor for the boat but as the engines are 20+ years old think it may be prudent to get a detailed assessment before proceeding with purchase.

What do others think? What would be likely cost?

Cheers :)

I would give Alan Stafford a call from SOS Boat Services, 07711 320522.

Alan has given great service to me over the years. He normally charges £35 an hour.

Your surveyor should be able to recommend an engineer local to you. As Rafiki says about £35 an hour is the going rate. I recently had a marine engineer accompany me on the sea trial which cost me 2 hours x £35. He checked the engines and gear boxes from cold to running temp and all the way through the rev band. He checked engine mounts and engine stays / supports, pressures, temps, alignment, belts, visual on fuel filters. I felt I got my money's worth and would definitely use a engineer to accompany on any future sea trials.

Oil analysis was done by the surveyor as part of his scope of work.

Tony, apologies for the pedantry, but I am assuming yer man was a technician, not an engineer? Us Engineers charge considerably more than £35/hr, and we are not really the right people to do these kinds of checks :)

Apologies to the original OP for thread drift

Paul if I were smart enough I would have posted pics. You may remember my questions about a Sealord 446 ? Well, after making a really cheeky offer and sticking to my guns, I'm now the very proud owner. There aren't enough daylight hours in a day for the amount of time I just want to stand and look at her. The cat who got the cream springs to mind :-)

Brilliant, well done. Most of us use Photobucket for hosting pics, then you copy the URL to your forum post. If you search on the Mobo forum, you will find several posts on "how to...."
So she has the Cats, presumably with the ZF gearboxes? These are fantastic on my Azi, so easy to use.
