engine start battery

70 Ah I think you will find
Unfortunately I don't think you will find a recommendation for CCA

For reasons I know not VP specify a maximum size of battery

they're not really that helpful. a minimum size in ah and cca would be more useful. Why is 70ah the max? I currently have 85ah and it seems to work ok?

If volvo can't tell us max and min amounts how are laymen supposed to know? it does annoy me a little that the experts in big companies cannot share basic essential info with their customers!

Come-on why the big secrets... ...tell us!!

Don't get too worked up about it. It really is not that critical. Any 70-85 ah battery designed for starting a diesel engine will be more than adequate. The one in my 2L Ford diesel lasted 7 years starting the engine virtually every day. Compared with that starting a 2001 in a yacht is a doddle. Biggest thing is to make sure your charging system recharges it quickly as soon as the engine starts.

Just make sure it fits, and has the right terminals, the right way round.

Questions about the CCA of Volvo starters have been raised before but I don't remember an answer being found. As a guide all the Yanmars up to at least the 3 cylinder engines have a CCA requirement of 200A.
