I need a second hand replacement inflatable to use with my Tohatsu 3.5hp 2 stroke. Best dinghy for my needs seems to be a Bombard AX2 but (there's always a but!), max engine size for this dinghy is 3hp. Anyone combined these two?
I wouldn't have thought half a horse power would make any difference unless anyone knows differently!

I have an AX2 with a Johnson 3.5 - no problem. Mind you with two on board you have to restrain yourself on the throttle a bit /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The AX2 tubes are a bit small - the pay off being weight and size. She with a wet bum is not always impressed /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

if you use one of those turbo inflators in suck mode you can really get it small enough to go in most reasonable sized lockers. its the width of the transom that dictates the length when all rolled up.

The insructions for the AX2 are that you roll it up from the stern. This doesn't work well as the air valves are on the sponsons so the remaining air gets trapped at the bow. The trick is a) to get the tubes inboard so they touch and the whole dinghy is only as wide as the transom and then b) roll it from the bow to get the air out and then re-roll it from the stern. That way I get it back it the cover and hence in the locker. This operation is easiest on the pontoon - if doing it on board I just do my best and leave it tied down on top of the boat to sort out later!

Does it stow OK in your cockpit locker?

The selling point of the AX2 [and other Bombards] is its compactness when folded [75X45X28 cm, for the AX2] and also its light weight. That's why I bought one. Re. outboards, we use a Mariner 3.3 but never with much throttle as you get too much spray unless the water is really smooth.
