hi all,
I somehow came across someone mentioning using a mobile app to check tacho accuracy vs real rpm of engine.
I recently bought a UniT rpm counter to tune a new rpm gauge on a friend's old Johnson 3cyl 2T o/b (you know the digital meters where you stick a reflective strip to the crank pulley and point the thing against it) which btw works fine but on a larger boat means going up and down the steps and then down the e/r to do the thing, I was curious.
So downloaded one app on my android phone that seemed to do just that and I have to say I'm amazed!
Was in the lower helm, started engine, tuned thing to 6cyl engines, and it immediatelly picked the right value, although it was a bit windy in the marina, things were moving about nextdoor and whatnot.
Changed rpm, again spot on!
So for anyone wanting to check rpm of main engine/generator/tender o/b, its a brilliant free tool:
RPM Gauge by Javier Yanez
no connection whatsoever, other than impressed by it!
cheers
