Following on from my previous post, I want to replace the engine room lighting.

Slimline flourescent perhaps, which make? Or low voltage? Would this be bright enough?

Any recommendations please?

Joe,

Remember the size of your boat - you are really looking at commercial gear not weekend sailor runabouts.

On yours I would go for battery powered 12/24v strip lights plus maybe a big 240v up each side and one down the middle backed up with a 12/24v inspection lamp or two on flyleads.

IIRC the genny is remote start so no need to go into the engine room so the only time really you would need to go there is to check oil levels etc - once a day perhaps.

You might get away with one 240v in the middle and a couple of 12/24v over each engine plus maybe one more over the genny(s).

Again I suggest you look at what is available for commercial vessels.

RS Components do a superb square (about 6") 12V fluorescent light. Stock No is 293-5908. I have used them on previous boats and they are great. Can't think why chandlers don't stock them as they are the best I have found for lots of light at only 16W
