not sure if this has been done to death but i need to update my engine bay extinguishers, boat is a 2001 s28 with 2 halons in.
whats a good route, i see can I get 2kg gtfe for about £180. its clean but only has 5 year life
any one else recommend anything else....?

Halons are awful, and have been banned for ages.

I have a few CO2 stacked around, and a hole into the engine bay, covered with a swinging panel so that the fire can be squirted at without opening a door.

Also AFFF, which is a water based firex with an additive to smother the fire source. Powder ex's can be corrosive and eat away delicate electronics.

You will probably find youtr insurance makes particluar demands for engine room fire extinguisers. If not, there is a calculation to make to determine the system size. Try calling Peter henderson of Fireguard on 01425 616 139 or 07969 728 986.

Good point and to add to this my insurer says particularly that the extinguishers need to be automatic and manually operable from the helm.

same here, but mine still have a yellow plastic pin in them. Do these just break when you pull the hand operated levers?
If they don't, how do you get them to work without frying?
I've had an automatic one fixed between the two engines anyway.
