Engine reset tripping

Hi All, I have a S34 with twin KAD32's and when she gets over around 10mph all of the port engine instruments stop working and the engine will not turn off with the key. The remedy is to press the reset button on the engine after which the instruments all come back and I can then turn the engine off with the key. The only other observation I have is that the port engine runs cooler than starboard but not sure if this is relevant?
Does anyone have any ideas as to what can be causing this, I am thinking electrical?
Cheers, Ray

Try unplugging the port supercharger, a plug with a red and white wire just above the supercharger. It could be the electromechanical clutch on the way out and shorting out causing the trip to pop out, have you tried it in neutral to see if it happens as the supercharger cuts in? If this isn't the fault then check the wiring on the engine for damage/shorting and see what the volt meter does as you raise the revs until the fault happens, to make sure its not alternator related.
As regards the different temps, does the cooler engine have a calorifier plumbed into it as this can lower the temp due to the larger capacity freshwater system on that engine.
I assume you mean its cooler than normal and not one engine running hotter than normal.

I agree with spannerman. It sounds exactly like a problem with the supercharger clutch. You may also want to check the supercharger control box for any smell of burning.

Another test , when you raise the engine revs and the charger cuts in does the Rev counter drop in revs slightly? If it does it means the clutch is drawing too much current and requires replacing, I'd also change the relay at the same time.
