Engine Replacement

What would be a good replacement for a single cylinder VP MD1 engine? I could get another the same but parts are eye wateringly expensive or no longer available. I'm thinking possibly a Bukh DV10 but don't know much about them.

Reasonable alternative but are spares not rarer and dearer

What about one of the Betas? They adapt the engine mounts to suit what you have had in before. An engineer's opinion was that marinisation of the Kubota engine was not as good as some competitors

I have just replaced my md1 with another of the same type.

Removed and replaced in one weekend, replacement md1 was very cheap (new engines were around £3,000), and I have the old engine for spares.

The risk is that the replacement engine may not last - but it could run for many years yet

I got it from boats and outboards
Its only a few years younger than the one it replaced, but it works fine
