Renewing hoses. Paint on parts of engine is flakey. Once scraped/brushed down to bare metal what primer/undercoats are necessary? (No information on spray can)
Is engine paint a necessity or is it purely for apperance?
Should I paint before or after fitting new hoses? Some hoses are painted some not – any problems if painted?
Grateful for any advice on hose renewal or painting. Thanks.

The other advantage of painting the engine a light colour is that oil weeps and other problems are easier to see.

I like to keep my Volvo looking the part and bright surfaces make probs easier to spot. Volvo paint goers straight on the cleaned metal. Latterly I've user Hammerite green in the areas round the water pump - a source of drips on occasions. Works just fine and stays in place.

I recently repainted a Volvo and used Engine paint from Frost's the car restoration specialists. Buick green is an exact match for the original Volvo colour, though not particularly cheap its probably cheaper than volvos & it has a good reputation.
