Engine Oil for older Diesels....

I have been both confused and enlightened by the various postings and information on finding a suitable mineral engine oil for our older marine engines.
I have tracked down a scource which can supply suitable API graded mineral oils in the Uk. Lubetech Oils supply Exol Classic with an API classification of CC and a TBN of 3.8. It is 20w50. They have a Uk ebay shop although I can not find anyother contact scource for them. They supply in either 5 litre containers or in 20 litre containers.
Hope this will be of assistance to others. I have ordered 20 litres and will let the forum know how the purchase goes.

Suiable oil readily available at your local B & Q.

I have been using it for 10 years in my Thornycroft T80 (marinised mitsubishi).

Similarly, Tesco does oil for old diesel engines.

I buy a similar oil, API CC, from Morris Lubricants. My BMC engine takes quite a lot of it, so I buy 5 gallons at a time, which Morris deliver to my house.

Amazingly, the sump capacity of an RB211 jet engine is just about the same as that of my BMC 2.2 litre diesel! Cost is probably a factor of 100 or so greater. An oil change on my motorhome, 4 litres of oil, costs £80 for top level synthetic.

How is that possible? Even Mobil 1 which was the first and, I reckon, still the best synthetic, costs nothing like that.

Good question. It's Castrol Magnatec extended drain lub. Maybe I have mistaken the sump capacity.
