Following on from my gearbox thread, I spoke to jez at pilkinton marine in Newton Abbott and he is sure the problem is not the gearbox but in the drive train.

he recommended starting with the flexible mounts which look quite old and working back. I remember the surveyor commenting on the cutless bearing being slightly worn.

So i guess I will change the mounts and check alignment.
Does anyone know where i would get reasonable priced flexible mounts for a Perkins m30 please?

The guy below was very helpful with my old Perkins from 1973 vintage when I replaced the mounts a couple of years ago. Initially the part number came up as 'obsolete' but the guy squirrelled around and found it had been superseded. I got new mounts as designed, straight swap. It's at least another option to look at.

Was there a noticeable difference with the new mounts?

Hi, Two years ago I got engine mounts for the Perkins M30- in my river cruiser from these people for a fraction of the price quoted by the marinas.

The ones used in my case were the Cushyfloat range.

No connection other than as a satisfied customer.
hope this helps.

Ditto for these guys http://www.avindustrialproducts.co.uk/ I've sung their praises before here after doing two Yanmar remounts for less than 25% of Yanmar prices. Knowledgeable and if you are near Leicester, you can call in and talk Shore ratings.

I cant say as the change was the result of a failed coupling on the delivery trip which bent the prop shaft. I had new mounts installed as part of a lot of work: new cutless, prop shaft and a Halyard Aquadrive. There is no doubt that the engine runs smoothly.
