Hi …I have a Fairline Targa 27 circa 1989 and I need to remove the engine mounts and hoping someone has undertaken this.
I have a nice new shiny Power Steering Pump to replace the old leaky one and the Instruction sheet simply says “Block and support the engine and remove the starboard engine bracket. Remove the rubber block from the bracket” … simple!!!
Well the bolts holding the power steering mounting plate are too long to just remove as they hit against the rubber block. So it looks like removing of the engine mount is the only way.
I have spent hours trying alternatives like dismantling the pump bit by bit with no joy so removing the mount looks the only way.
Question is…
How are the mounts fixed to the bearers? Are the bolts glassed in or can they just unbolt or will the hidden nut(?) fall off?
Can I just jack the front of the engine up about 30mm to clear the engine mount studs without damage to the rear stern-drive fixings?
I will probably replace the Rubber cushions whist I am at it so any advice would be appreciated.
