Just for comfort if you worry about hours, mate's Gardner is having an overhaul. It doesn't really need it, but it's part of an insurance machinery claim following a badly fouled prop which compromised the gearbox, the engine job is belt and braces. It's only done 80,000 hours in this boat, and was a recon after coming out of the bus it was originally in.
Sunderland Marine, 38 years claim free, several £k pa premium. Mine was £2200 inc machinery back in the nineties, for £35k cover. Get what you pay for.
 
I don't think I've ever heard of a marine diesel simply wearing out, it's lack of use and lack of servicing/maintenance that gets them.

I was a day boat, little activity in deep winter, out and back, often with the tide, 12-14 hours not unusual, 120-140 days pa.
This boat, however, is a netting boat working neap tides, away from home (Scilly based when away from Newlyn) and sometimes out for 2-3 days, so engine running 24 hours a day, and often doing a long day from port, 0400-2000. Say 20 neaps out of 26, ten days per neap, 200 days, ten hours a day, ipso fatso my case rests

I did believe you. It’s a Gardner. I was merely illustrating, for the less numerate, what 80,000 hours means in the real world
