I need to replace the very old engine (Yanmar YSE12 _ G/box) control cable. In the cockpit I have a control lever (horiontal = neutral / down = forward / up = reverse) into the cockpit locker & this connects to a threaded rod - whick goes into the control cable (relatively thick).

The other end is similar & connects to the vertical arm of the gear box - so the cockpit lever pushed hard down - pushes the gear box lever forward in to gear.

Where would you suugest I find a replacement ?

Cheers Mike

This cable should have writing on the outside, which will identify the type and length of the cable. It sounds like a standard morse or teleflex control cable, which are best found at an outboard shop. Disconnect the existing cable (retaining all connection pieces, pull old cable out with a piece of string connected so you have something to pull the new cable through, and take it down the shop. I would be surprised if they dont have a replacement available.

Normally if one cable is broken, the second (throttle) cable wont be much better, so consider doing both at the same time.

the cable for the throttle is seperate - so the gear cable - just has one cable in it.

Does this make any difference?

Cheers ps will take it all off & take to o/board shop as you suggest

will be seperate cables. may even be different length. suggest you make sure you know which one connects where, and draw appropriate diagrams (digital camera is great for these sort of things!)
