Well I missed all the nice September weather but here's a recommendation for Althorne Marine (John Rook). He got on the case quickly and I am still concious after his bill:)

Engine out, head off, injectors off for a service, decoke etc, got sump repaired all re-assembled and installed with new injector sleeves, new front mounts and new lift pump, oil and fuel filters and impeller changed. £700 labour plus £823 for parts and external items. Can't odds that. £209 cranage. £35 for new insulation which I fitted. No engine work required next season.:):)

Much smoother with all three injectors working properly:o Altogether a bill one could do without but I did get to paint the house and the engine should be fine for another 20 years - just hope I am :D

I am delighted for you Roger. Its really nice when a plan comes together with the anticipated outcome.

As you say, the engine will now sit there happily for years.

Excellent.

Erm, Roger, aren't you tempting fate just a little bit by saying it's going to be fine next year ?
Thought my (loaned) outboard would be alright until this morning, it's sitting outside now while I have a bite to eat before beating it into submission :o

Thats happy news Roger, very pleased for you, and agree with you re John, though last time I had a chat with him, he mentioned something about only keeping Althorne Marine a few more years. Will be a shame when he goes.

Compared to my experience last year, engine lifted out to investigate suspected major failure indicated by total engine oil dumped in bilge.

No cranage- boat left in water- engine out mounted on bench and run for an afternoon- no fault found so reinstalled and it's worked fine since, something of a mystery.

Anyway, the bill? £1600.

I'd say you did rather better !!

Good news Roger

Kioni's venerable diesel has a tendency to overheat slightly so I've got have an unclogging session soon - I hope it's an easy fix and not something that needs a rebuild or worse yet replacement.
