I have a "Morse/Teleflex" type side mounted, single lever, throttle / gear control. Its vintage is 1970.s. It consists of black box with short, but elegant, silver lever and what looks like a small , white billiard ball on top. The drive button is turned Ally but the lever may be a dodgy plated alloy for it is deeply pitted.
All the control actions need to be reversed for my new engine (always the way). The throttle was easy, all I needed to do was turn the operating crank through 180 deg. What about the gears? Is there an easy way that I am missing or will I have to take the black box apart? I'm pretty sure the handle will not come off without tears and stress.
I oculd just leave it, pushing the lever forward for reverse and backwards for ahead. but I feel this is a disaster waiting to happen. Cheers Brian.

Your control sounds remarkably similar to mine, in which case: yes, the clutch operation can be reversed without disassembly; and also the 'throw' can be varied.

I have the instructions (models MI,MIW,MI-HD) and will scan a copy if you PM me your email.

Thanks very much Vic, but no need now. I have had a closer look at the mechanism and see that the gear cable has a second position, allowing the crank to be reversed. Brian.

Pleased you figured it out ... a wordy description would have been difficult. Incidentally, if ever necessary, it's not too difficult to disassemble/reassemble the mechanism. (latter is the harder bit). Some of us have had to do this due to inadequate initial greasing.

I also had the Morse control as described, and just accepted it went the other way when I fitted the new engine. It helped that as the control was mounted athwartship, not fore and aft it didn't matter - very soon got used to the different movement especially after I fitted labels!
