Any sources for good, cost effective inboard engine sound insulation. The old stuff is just foam covered in some sort of thin black vinyl. The vinyl bit is coming off and the foam is very soft and and not much use. I have used the closed cell black foam that looks a bit like an egg box before but can't seem to find it anymore - maybe it isn't popular anymore ?.

Exactly what I am using.

I used the same type on a previous project, 30 mm and 40 dB sound reduction. ISO 3795 compliant.

Not self-adhesive which I preferred as it was easier to fit when not tacking to things before being in place.

Vetus have a multi layer version (£££!) up to 60 mm and Armacell may have alternatives too.

Sounds like I had better start checking down the back of the sofa then ?
I’ve wondered about a budget DIY solution by creating a laminate between class O (fireproof) closed cell foam and butyl roofing ‘lead’ replacement. But it still wouldn’t be cheap-cheap and it may not work as well.

On the plus side, how long has the current insulation lasted? Ours was removed at 30 years during re-engining. Replacement is still on this winter’s jobs list.
